Collector calls for public participation to make Guntur clean and green

Guntur District Collector has urged citizens to actively participate in the “Clean and Green Guntur” initiative aimed at transforming the city into one of the cleanest and most environmentally sustainable urban centers in Andhra Pradesh. Addressing officials, civic workers, and residents during a review meeting, the Collector emphasized that public cooperation is the key to achieving lasting cleanliness, greenery, and ecological balance in the district.

He highlighted that the government has already launched several programs under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Haritha Haram, and Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) campaigns, but their success depends largely on community involvement and behavioral change among citizens. The Collector appealed to people to adopt eco-friendly practices such as segregating waste at source, avoiding single-use plastics, planting trees, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

Special focus is being given to improving solid waste management, ensuring door-to-door garbage collection, and developing green belts and parks across Guntur city. The district administration plans to collaborate with schools, colleges, NGOs, resident welfare associations, and local businesses to conduct awareness drives and tree plantation programs on a regular basis.

The Collector stated that maintaining cleanliness and greenery is not only a matter of civic duty but also directly linked to public health, tourism growth, and sustainable urban living. Citizens were encouraged to take pride in their surroundings, monitor local cleanliness efforts, and report issues such as littering or illegal dumping through the municipal helpline or mobile apps.

In his closing remarks, the Collector reiterated that a clean and green Guntur can only be achieved through the collective responsibility of every citizen. He called upon the people to treat cleanliness as a daily habit rather than a one-time campaign, promising that the district administration will continue to provide all necessary support and resources to ensure a cleaner, greener, and healthier Guntur for future generations.
